It Was All a Dream

Last Friday I had a dream about a penguin. It was standing on my neighbor’s roof, almost as if it was ready to jump off. The colors of the penguin were so vivid; its skin was silky, black and white, and its neck was this bright pop of red instead of the usual yellow/orange. I woke up excited about this penguin visiting me.

Saturday morning I felt the urge to draw the penguin, and so I did, but then closed my sketchbook and walked away. Saturday night, I was watching the latest episode of Smash when penguins appeared again. Who knew that a TV show would have a family of penguins hanging out on their bookshelf, and that I would see them, but I'll go with it. This got me thinking they are coming to me for a reason.

Tuesday night I went out to paint, making it a goal to finish a piece. As I was touching up another painting, I saw this piece of wood I had painted a background on and had written “Be Creative,” but I was far from happy with the piece. I took those words to heart when I set out to cover it up — and this is what evolved.I think I'm in love.

  1. Oh Jennifer, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! I find it amazing that the "signs" are always there while we sleep and while we are awake.

We truly need to pay attention and be aware and open. Way to listen to it all. Your painting is BEAUTIFUL and the story behind it is so inspiring.

Keep listening, keep painting and keep sharing the journey. Who knows where it will take you next! xox
